Dry Dock
Category: maritime
A maintenance period where a ship is removed from the water for structural repairs or hull cleaning.
Periodically, every ship must leave the water. While in dry dock, the hull is cleaned of barnacles, the propeller and stabilizers are inspected, and large-scale mechanical or aesthetic interior renovations are performed.
Common Examples
- The ship is scheduled for a two-week dry dock period to refresh the interior decor and perform routine hull maintenance.
- Dry dock is a massive logistics project that requires careful coordination with shipyard engineers and maritime regulatory authorities.
