EDID (Extended Display Identification Data)
Category: science
A digital metadata profile provided by a monitor to declare its resolution capabilities and timing layouts to the computer graphics card.
EDID data passes across dedicated pins within HDMI, DisplayPort, or eDP screen cables. If the EDID EEPROM chip on a replacement screen panel is corrupted or has un-matching firmware profiles, the laptop graphics engine may turn off the back-light completely, causing a black screen symptom.
Common Examples
- The display replacement failed to show an image because the hardware configuration encountered an invalid EDID handshake error block.
- Technicians utilize a direct panel programmer clip to copy the EDID data array from the old cracked screen onto the new replacement unit.
