Depollution (De-fluiding)
Category: infrastructure
The mandatory procedure of removing all hazardous fluids and gases from an End-of-Life Vehicle before it is crushed or shredded.
Depollution is an environmental compliance requirement. It involves draining engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, fuel, and discharging refrigerants (like R-134a) into regulated recovery containers. Failure to depollute causes massive hazardous waste leaks and heavy regulatory fines.
Common Examples
- Our station performs a full depollution sequence on every vehicle intake to guarantee that no petrochemicals contaminate our soil runoff basins.
- The local inspector verified our depollution logs to ensure all vehicle mercury switches and refrigerant gases were collected correctly.
