Superscoring
Category: business
The practice of combining an applicant’s highest section scores across multiple test dates to create a new master composite score.
Applicable to both the SAT and ACT. If a student takes the SAT in March and scores high in math but low in reading, then reverses those results in June, a superscoring institution will harvest the peak sections to form a higher optimized composite score for admissions data tracking.
Common Examples
- Thanks to the university's superscoring policy, his official SAT composite jumped forty points after matching scores across two test runs.
- Utilizing a superscoring strategy allows testing candidates to narrow their study prep focus to a single section prior to their second attempt.
