CDX Plywood
Category: infrastructure
A standard construction-grade plywood sheathing rated for temporary exposure to moisture during building frames.
The "C" and "D" represent the veneer appearance quality of the front and back wood panels, respectively, which allow for open knots and structural patches. The "X" signifies the use of high-strength exterior glue. It is the default material chosen for structural roof decking and exterior wall sheathing.
Common Examples
- We specified CDX plywood for the roof decking to provide required shear strength while resisting weather during construction.
- Never use CDX plywood as a exposed finish surface because the D-grade veneer side contains large, unpatched knot holes.
