Paint Sealant/Protection
Category: infrastructure
A chemical coating applied by the dealer to the vehicle exterior, marketed as protection against environmental damage.
Paint sealant is a high-margin F&I product. While factory-applied clear coats are modernly robust, dealers charge hundreds for "ceramic" or "polymer" coatings. These products are often vastly cheaper if applied by a professional independent auto-detailer post-purchase.
Common Examples
- We skipped the dealership’s paint sealant add-on package, opting for a higher-grade professional ceramic coating from a local shop instead.
- Dealer-added paint protection usually carries massive profit margins, making it a primary target for removal during F&I contract negotiations.
