Out-the-Door Price (OTD)
Category: finance
The final, all-inclusive purchase price that includes the vehicle, taxes, title fees, and all dealer-added registration costs.
OTD price is the only metric that matters. Dealers love to negotiate monthly payments (e.g., "what do you want to pay per month?"), which masks price markups and interest-rate padding. Focusing strictly on the out-the-door price forces transparency.
Common Examples
- We walked away from the deal because the out-the-door price jumped by two thousand dollars after they added hidden registration fees.
- Ask the dealer for an itemized out-the-door price sheet before submitting your credit application to ensure no surprise charges appear later.
