Lemon Law (State Warranty Regulation)
Category: legal
State statutes providing remedies for consumers whose vehicles turn out to be chronically defective.
Lemon laws kick in after a certain number of repair attempts (usually three or four) for the same serious defect, or if the car is out of service for a set timeframe (e.g., thirty cumulative days). It forces the manufacturer to repurchase the "lemon" or replace it with a new unit.
Common Examples
- After the transmission failed four times, we initiated the lemon law process to force a total vehicle buy-back from the manufacturer.
- Most lemon law statutes apply only to "new" vehicles and require meticulous documentation of every single repair shop visit attempt.
