Transport Protection Film
Category: infrastructure
A thin plastic film applied by the manufacturer to vehicle exterior panels to prevent shipping scratches.
When a new car arrives, you will often see white plastic film on the hood, roof, and trunk. Dealerships must remove this during the "pre-delivery inspection" (PDI) process. If the film is left on too long in the sun, it can bake into the paint, requiring expensive paint correction.
Common Examples
- We insisted on watching the PDI process to ensure they removed the transport protection film without scratching the clear coat.
- A vehicle missing its transport protection film upon arrival at the dealership might indicate an unauthorized pre-delivery test drive event.
