Dealer-Installed Add-ons
Category: finance
High-margin aftermarket products (like nitrogen-filled tires or pinstriping) added by the dealer to boost profit.
Dealers often pre-install these items on all inventory, charging thousands for products that cost pennies. Examples include paint sealant packages, fabric protection, and nitrogen tire inflation. These are frequently optional and can be stripped from the contract during the negotiation phase.
Common Examples
- We refused to pay the two-thousand-dollar dealer-added markup for a paint protection film package we didn’t explicitly request.
- Check the vehicle window sticker for dealer-added markup items, as they are often tacked on as extra line items above the factory MSRP.
