Benchmark Position
Category: business
A brand’s relative standing in the market when compared to top-performing competitors across critical KPIs.
A benchmark position is quantified by looking at KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as sales volume, customer satisfaction ratings, fuel efficiency, and safety tech. It allows a manufacturer to determine if they are the "market leader" (setting the standard) or a "challenger" (trying to disrupt the standard).
Common Examples
- Our mid-year market analysis confirms that our benchmark position has shifted from "challenger" to "market leader" in the compact hybrid segment.
- The manufacturer’s current benchmark position is threatened by the surge in high-value, tech-loaded vehicles from emerging global competitors.
