Brake Pulsation

Category: automotive

A vibration or "shudder" felt in the steering wheel or pedal when applying the brakes.

Pulsation is almost always caused by "warped" rotors—where the thickness of the rotor is uneven due to heat damage or rust buildup. It creates a rhythmic bumping sensation that gets worse as you brake harder.

Common Examples

  • The severe brake pulsation while stopping from highway speeds confirmed that our front rotors were unevenly worn and needed resurfacing.
  • Brake pulsation is a major safety concern that often indicates an underlying issue with the wheel hub or rotor cooling efficiency.
