Brake Bleeding
Category: automotive
The process of removing air bubbles from the hydraulic brake system.
Air is the "brake killer." Air is compressible; brake fluid is not. If air is in the lines, your pedal hits the floor and the car doesn’t stop. Bleeding involves opening the valves at the wheels to "push" the air out until only pure fluid remains.
Common Examples
- After replacing the master cylinder, we performed a full brake fluid bleed to ensure no air remained in the lines.
- Proper brake bleeding is essential; even a tiny air bubble can turn a firm brake pedal into a soft, dangerous hazard.
