Bow

Category: maritime

The very front or "nose" section of a ship.

The bow is the forward-most point of the hull. Because it cuts through the water, it is often where observation decks and premium suites are located to maximize the oceanic view, though it is also the area most susceptible to motion in rough seas.

Common Examples

  • The sail-away party was held on the bow observation deck, giving us a perfect view of the port as we departed.
  • Cabins located at the bow experience more pronounced vertical motion during high-sea passages.
