Boarding Group

Category: travel

A classification system that determines the order in which passengers enter the aircraft.

Groups are assigned based on fare class, loyalty status, or seat location. By boarding in specific segments (starting with priority groups), the airline manages the flow of passengers to prevent cabin aisle congestion.

Common Examples

  • We were assigned to boarding group 3, which meant we were among the final passengers to stow their luggage in the overhead bin.
  • Airline staff announce the boarding group clearly at the gate to ensure an orderly flow of passengers onto the jet bridge.
