Wet-Room Tanking System
Category: infrastructure
The comprehensive sealing process of fully waterproofing all floor and wall planes of a bathroom to handle open water.
Common in high-end European styles where walk-in showers lack glass partitions entirely. Tanking requires treating the entire bathroom structure as a swimming pool basin—applying heavy membrane sheets and liquid barriers across every single square foot of subfloor and running wall surfaces.
Common Examples
- Executing a full wet-room tanking system allowed us to place an open rainfall shower directly adjacent to the free-standing soaking tub.
- Tanking requires flashing the waterproof sheet at least six inches up the entry wall threshold to insulate the exterior drywall from steam.
