Shower Pan Flood Test
Category: science
A mandatory structural code inspection where a shower basin is plugged and filled with water to verify absolute integrity.
To perform the flood test, the primary drain pipe is sealed shut using a mechanical rubber test plug. The basin area is filled with water up to a depth of two inches at the threshold and monitored closely for twenty-four consecutive hours to confirm no water dropping leaks exist inside the subfloor.
Common Examples
- The building department signed off on our framing card after the shower pan flood test showed zero drop in water level over a full day.
- A failed flood test is a financial catastrophe, requiring the full removal of the shower pan mortar assembly back to the bare wood studs.
