Grout Haze
Category: science
A dull, cloudy film left on the face of tiles after the grout installation clean-up phase.
Grout haze occurs when the water-cementitious film dries across the decorative tile face after joint packing. If left setting for more than a few days, it cures into a stubborn glaze that cannot be wiped clean with standard water, requiring specialized acidic cleaners or sulfamic acid scrubs.
Common Examples
- The tile installer utilized an acidic grout haze remover solution to safely dissolve the cloudy cement film off the polished porcelain panels.
- Avoid using aggressive acid washes on natural marble or limestone tiles, as the chemical will instantly etch and ruin the stone finish.
