Ground Not-In-Motion Coverage

Category: insurance

An aviation hull policy that restricts coverage to when the aircraft is parked, anchored, or being towed.

This is a cost-saving policy for aircraft owners who are storing their plane for the winter or executing long-term engine overhauls. It covers risks like hangar fires, windstorms, or vandalism, but explicitly denies any coverage the moment the aircraft moves under its own engine power.

Common Examples

  • We transitioned the bush plane to ground not-in-motion coverage while it sat in storage for the four-month frozen off-season.
  • The claim was rejected because the engine was running and the brakes were released, violating the ground not-in-motion restriction.
