Pressure-Balance Shower Valve
Category: infrastructure
A plumbing valve that maintains a constant water temperature output by automatically balancing hot and cold supply pressures.
Also referred to as an anti-scald valve, this mechanical unit contains a sliding piston mechanism. If someone flushes a toilet nearby, causing a drop in cold water pressure, the valve shifts instantly to reduce hot water flow proportionately, preventing accidental scalding events.
Common Examples
- Universal plumbing codes require an anti-scald pressure-balance shower valve inside all new residential residential bathroom builds.
- If your shower temperature swings violently when a faucet opens elsewhere, your pressure-balance shower valve spool is likely blocked by scale accumulation.
