Logbook
Category: aviation
A formal record tracking all flights, maintenance, and flight crew hours for an aircraft.
The logbook is the "aircraft’s diary." If it isn’t in the logbook, it didn’t happen. It is mandatory for maintaining the aircraft’s airworthiness certificate. When buying a used private jet, the quality and detail of the logbook is the most important value driver.
Common Examples
- The meticulous record-keeping in the logbook made it easy to verify that all mandatory engine inspections had been performed on time.
- Any missing pages or sloppy entries in an aircraft logbook can severely devalue the asset during a resale or insurance review.
